Documentary Film Competition
The Documentary Film Awards will be the highlight of "Stories and Spaces", offering the graduating students the chance of having their work seen and evaluated by four leading professionals from the Film and Media Industry: filmmakers Daisy Asquith, Penny Woolcock and Mark Francis, and Sussex Alumni and current Chairman of the Council, Simon Fanshawe.

Each judge will be assigned one of the following categories of films:

Community A collection of films that look at the ties within a community from Ultimate Frisbee to the Hare Krishna faith, addressing the issue of belonging
Identity The documentaries in this category cover the deeply personal questions about how we are defined by mental illnesses, our culture and our sexual orientation
Provoking Change These short films follow the lives of people inspired to provoke change covering issues of activism human rights and animal welfare
Passionate People These short documentaries explore what drives peoples passions about classic cars, burlesque, underground music, design and surfing
All competing films will be screened during the event in their specific category, as scheduled on the programme.

Each category contains five short documentaries (20-30 minutes per film) and will have one winner, announced by its corresponding judge during the Awards Ceremony.

The prizes include one year subscriptions to Shooting People and two short internships in production companies: back2back Productions and Touch Productions.
